Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Journey in Faith
What is the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)?
The RCIA process (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) goes back to the most ancient roots of Christianity. It is the process through which –
– those who are seeking have an opportunity to ask their questions in freedom, and hear the Catholic perspective,
– someone discerns whether Christ is calling them to be His disciple in the midst of His Church,
– those who have decided to follow Christ are “apprenticed” in the Christian life through
– learning Christ’s teaching,
– becoming immersed in the Church’s liturgical life,
– adopting for themselves the Christian way of life, and
– coming to know the Lord deeply in prayer.
The RCIA process prepares someone for a lifelong discipleship of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church. As this is such a life-changing decision and the process is different for each person.

English Martyrs RCIA September 2025 – 2026
Meetings on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 – 9pm in the Bethlehem Chapel
Enquirers are invited to get to know Jesus Christ and the Good News He brings. As they journey together with a small group of parishioners, they begin to explore what it means to become a disciple of Jesus and to share in the life of a parish community. Participants are invited and encouraged to share their own life experience and stories of what has brought them to this point. Each person is free to move at their own pace and to bring whatever questions they have about Catholic Christianity. Our meetings are most often known as the Journey in Faith because all members of the group, even lifelong Catholics, are on a journey, still exploring and deepening our understanding of our Faith. We always learn from each other.
What happens in RCIA/ Journey in Faith meetings?
We share our stories, our journeys so far, our life experiences and some of the challenges we face. The tone is informal.
For this reason, it is important to keep what we share with each other in the meetings confidential. Our stories are not shared with people outside the meetings.
Regular attendance at meetings is necessary to build our understanding and to form good connections with each other. Of course, work and family commitments will sometimes make absences inevitable.
We use various resources including films, music, simple liturgies.
Format:
Reflecting on the Sunday Readings. Becoming familiar with the “Liturgical Cycle”.
Getting to know our way around the Bible and the history of God’s journey with His people.
Understanding the Creed./ Understanding the Mass.
Your questions & challenges.
Who do you say that Jesus is ?
What does the Church teach about…? The Catechism of the Catholic church
How do I pray?
Ten Commandments
Heroes and Heroines of faith: the Saints.
