The St Vincent de Paul Society was established in England in 1844 and is part of a large lay Christian voluntary movement dedicated to tackling poverty in all it’s forms by providing practical assistance to people in need. We operate in 153 countries around the world and in England and Wales we have 870 local groups with 8,600 trained volunteer members.
Our core value is one of service and we treat each person as a unique individual deserving of dignity and respect. Person-to-Person contact is therefore at the heart of our work, and spending time with people is our greatest gift. We offer non-judgemental support to anyone in need, regardless of faith, race, gender, background or circumstances.
Our members in our SVP Group in English Martyrs Parish visit vulnerable or isolated people and families and offer them friendship and practical support. We visit people at home, in hospital, care homes and other settings, and sometimes we can offer transport to medical appointments or to get shopping. We also help to organise the Parish Social Afternoon Teas and the Parish Seniors Christmas Party.
Sometimes we can provide financial assistance to individuals because of the generosity of our fellow Parishioners. To help us with our work you can donate directly to our English Martyrs SVP NatWest bank account, sort code 60-60-04, a/c no. 46075062, or by making contactless donations through our Parish ‘Dona’ machine, by selecting SVP as the destination. You could also set up a Standing Order from your account to our SVP account number above if you wished. For Gift Aided Donations please contact Stephen Hogg (07891 773379) with your full name and address, so that we can claim back the tax that has been paid on your donation. Thank you.
